Mathematics

Practical Computation (Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division ) Recorded (in writing/using symbols) Problem solving, Practical Mathematics (Time, Length, Money, Shape) and Mental maths are taught through the Numeracy Strategy.

Our core scheme for teaching Mathematics is 'Nelson'. Supplementary materials are also used to give additional practice and to extend the work the children are doing. We aim to provide children with mathematical skills, understanding and the ability to apply mathematics to new situations.

The school places a great emphasis of the teaching of tables. Weekly tables tests are undertaken by the children. Mental maths activities are part of the daily Maths lesson.

We have a scheme of work for teaching mathematics. The Numeracy Strategy is taught through topic work, I.C.T and Numeracy Lessons.

We are constantly updating our resources for mathematics. Each class has a basic mathematics kit which is added to regularly. Other resources are organised in topics.

Science

We have chosen topics which link to a theme a class is studying and which meet the needs of the National Curriculum. Our aim is to encourage children to ask questions, test out their ideas, solve problems, and find suitable ways of recording their work. We encourage children to see the relevance of science in everyday life.

We have devised topic resource boxes to support the children's studies in science. We have an environment garden which provide pupils with further learning experiences. We aim to develop and extend all of these resources. Each class is also equipped with basic Science equipment.

Technology

We aim to provide the children with opportunities to 'design and make'.

We encourage pupils to test out their ideas, solve problems, re-define their ideas and produce a finished design or product. The range of activities we provide include – cookery, construction, model making, needlecraft, clay, etc. We link technology to ongoing classroom work.

Children have the opportunity to work with a variety of manufactured construction kits.
