Information
Technology The School has a computer suite equipped with iMacs. The school is connected to the internet via Hackney's server and filtering system, and also has video conferencing facilities. All classes including the nursery are equipped with Apple Mac CD Rom computers. We aim to develop computer and word processing skills necessary for future studies at secondary school and in adult life. Work programmes compliment ongoing classroom work and encourage proficiency in using computer and word processing equipment. The children have weekly lessons and there is a parents' class in which you can learn the basic skills of the computer. The school also has after school clubs for the children. Humanities (Geography, History, Religious Education) We approach this work through the study of a particular theme. We have set down a list of themes (topics) to follow. These are reviewed annually. The themes cover the requirements of the National Curriculum in Geography and History. First hand experience and investigative work are important parts of the children's studies (Educational visits, looking at things used by people past and present, using maps, globes, plans, etc.) We encourage the children to develop ideas, skills and to gain understanding and knowledge. Religious Education topics are studied as part of a class theme. Visits are encouraged to places of worship. We have developed topic boxes of resources to support work in the Humanities. We regularly add to the resources we have. Educational visits are an important resource for the children's learning. We welcome your support in helping us to provide these. The school also has an extensive video library. Creative Arts (Music, Drama, Art) Music We aim to provide all pupils with skills in singing and composing, the appreciation of music, and experience of playing some musical instruments. Children perform at assemblies and special events. We are also take part of the annual Hackney Festival of Music. The School also has a Choir, Recorder and Guitar clubs. Drama Children have the opportunity to develop skills through a range of activities, including role play, mime and improvisation. Much of our work in drama compliments ongoing classroom work and encourage proficiency in talking and listening skills. Children take part in performances at assemblies, concerts and special events. Art Throughout the school pupils will have the chance to use a variety of medium and to appreciate works of art. We aim to provide opportunities for pupils to work with professionals in the field of the Creative Arts. These have included an artist in residence project, which resulted in a wall mural in the junior playground, a sculpture project and various theatrical and musical groups. We aim to develop our resources for appreciating works of art. The School has an afterschool Art club. Curriculum: << previous page | next page >> |
