Dance, Physical and Health Education

We privide a full range of activities to develop pupils co-ordination and skills. We encourage co-operactive as well as competitive games. These have included hockey, football, netball and cricket. Year 2, 3 and 4 children are encouraged to swim. (See Swimming).

Topics in Health Education are studied as part of the ongoing classroom work e.g. healthy eating, dental health, keeping healthy. Sometimes we arrange special events, for example, 'Jump Rope' - skipping for a healthy heart, local health projects (dental health).

Children must change into suitable clothing for P.E and games. For example: Shorts, T-shirt, leotrads, plimsolls, trainers and tracksuits for colder weather.

No jewellery should be worn during lessons.

Long hair should be tied back, (as well as for swimming).

Parents support is requested in ensuring children are properly equipped for these lessons, and that P.E. equipment is at school on the correct day. The class Teacher will inform parents of which day.

If your child is unwell, and cannot take part in these lessons he/she should really not be in school. However, if your child is recovering from illness and you would prefer your child t be excused from P.E and Games please write a note to your child's Teacher explaing why. Otherwise all pupils will be expected to take part.

Swimming

Year 2 and Year 3 children learn to swim in our pool at school. Year 4 attend weekly lessons st the Britannia Leisure Centre.

PSHE and Citizenship

Aims

   • To provide opportunities for all children to learn and achieve.
   • To promote childrens' spiritual, moral, social and cultural      development.
   • prepare children for the oppotunities, responsibilities and      experiences of life.

These aims will be delivered within the school's agreed equal opportunities framework.

It is important that as a school we develop children's confidence, responsibility and enable them to make the most of their abilities. In preparing children to play an important role as citizens and developing a healthy, safer lifestyle, the school is sensitive to the needs and beliefs of children, parents, carers and other members of the school community.
