Our Curriculum

"The curriculum enriches the experience of the pupils. They go on many excursions and consequently are more excited about learning". Ofsted 2014

At Randal Cremer we want to ensure that all children receive the very best education which will enable them to excel academically and socially when they leave our school.

We do this by ensuring that Maths and English are taught consistently every day.

In Mathematics we follow the White Rose Curriculum which is based on the principle of maths mastery through concrete learning leading to pictorial representation to abstract understanding.

Maths Curriculum Overview

In English we teach reading through a systematic programme of synthetic phonics, Read, Write Inc. This starts in Nursery and continues through EYFS and KS1 which then progresses into spelling in KS2. The Hackney programmes of Daily Supported Reading in KS1 supports the development of learning to read in context and fosters an enjoyment of reading. The opportunity to read real books both fiction and non-fiction gives our children the ability to learn about text type and widen their knowledge of the world through reading.

DSR Statement February 2020

As children develop in confidence and fluency we introduce reading through lenses using Jane Considine’s Hooked on Books approach.

The children read through focused lenses studying the author’s techniques, grammar and vocabulary in order to understand the text. Book talk is used regularly to share the children’s in-depth thoughts on the text they are reading. Children are also taught how to answer comprehension questions that follow the point, evidence, explain routine leading to independent answers.
